The purpose of the course is to present a vision of the places where philosophy impinges on life and cast light on it. Prof. Scruton will introduce students to philosophy as he conceives it, which means hard and disciplined argument about soft and malleable material. A background reading in the history of philosophy would be an advantage for those wishing to enrol.
